A CHILD CLINICAL CASE CONFERENCE:
“THWARTED DEVELOPMENTAL YEARNINGS: CUMULATIVE TRAUMA AND ITS SEQUELAE”
THE WESTPORT LIBRARY - SEMINAR ROOM
CSPP member, Grete Laine, will present the treatment of a 10y.o. adopted girl, and her chaotic search for her mother through play therapy. The family’s failed responsiveness and Grete’s attempts to help them understand their daughter’s suffering will be described.
Discussant and guest analyst, Patricia Walter, will focus on chronic PTSD in children from the perspective of attachment and Self Psychology. The importance of play in providing self-regulation and cohesion will be emphasized as well as the challenges of family counseling.
Biographies
Grete Laine was trained as an analyst in Sydney, Australia and at TRISP. She is on the faculty of WCSPP and has written on attachment, adoption, and reflective parenting. She is a parent-child consultant in private practice in Riverside, CT
Patricia Walter is a training analyst and instructor at the Training Institute for Self Psychology (TRISP). Formerly a supervisor at St. Luke’s Hospital Department of Child Psychiatry, Patricia has written on play therapy, PTSD in children and interventions in school settings. She is in private practice in NYC
