Summary: This presentation offers a new perspective on the classic "hateful patient" through a detailed examination and consideration of the case of the UC Santa Barbara "incel" shooter. It explores the concept of evil and its relation to psychiatric illness, interface with society and the legal system, and directions for treatment.


The Speaker:  Dr. Hammel received his MD and MPH degrees from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, then completed residency training in Psychiatry at the Institute of Living at Hartford Hospital. He now runs a private practice in West Hartford where he provides medication management, psychotherapy, and practice consulting.
